Russel D McLean

The J McNee Novels

The J McNee Novels

The five McNee novels follow a private investigator from the Scottish city of Dundee. While each book can be read alone, the books build up a larger narrative as McNee faces up to the mistakes of his past and his increasingly complex connection to a local crime lord by the name of David Burns.

Originally published in the UK by independent publisher Five Leaves publications, Severn House published the final two books in the series.

Russel is often asked if McNee will return. The answer is... maybe, but for now, there are other stories to tell.

The first novel, The Good Son, has been published in Italian as L'Impicatto. Interestingly the translators gave McNee's first as John, even though in the original English, we only learn the first two letters of his first name are "Ja".
